promise of Yeshua here is similar to that of the prophet Isaiah, who promised Israel the oil of gladness instead of mourning (Isa. 61:3). In speaking of the spiritual reality of the kingdom, Yeshua could also be alluding to our need to mourn over our sins before we can be comforted. It is interesting that one of the Talmudic titles given to the Messiah is the name “Menachem” (Hebrew nacham), which means “Comforter,” as this would be an important ministry of King Messiah (Tractate Sanhedrin 98b).
